Beloved Members and Friends,

As more and more people are being vaccinated and hospitalization numbers decline, the U.S. seems to be emerging from the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, other parts of the world are dealing with surges in infections and deaths. We hold in our hearts the people of India especially, as the virus resurges and vaccines are in short supply.

Those of us who attended the 65th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) in March had a unique experience, with a dizzying array of learning opportunities and technological challenges. I felt a little overwhelmed by it all – as did some others of the 15 IWC delegates. As it was the first session organized virtually, a new platform was launched for presentations at the CSW65 civil society forum – and there seemed to be plenty of glitches. Despite the challenges, IWC did a fantastic job with the three events we hosted on the platform. If you have not seen these presentations, please go to our YouTube channel and check them out. I hope we’ll be able to send even more delegates to the 66th session, be it virtually and/or in person.

Our hardworking Executive Director, together with faithful volunteers, has been very busy putting together events, programs, and resources about IWC’s work around the globe. If you are attending the virtual UUA General Assembly later this month, please watch IWC’s on-demand video addressing healing from trauma across cultures. We also invite you to participate in our Annual Gathering on June 15, an interactive Zoom program prior to the Annual Meeting of IWC Members.

We truly value the input of our members and friends. If you have not yet signed up to be a member of IWC, please consider joining a powerful network of allies, advocates, and changemakers to fuel our mission of empowering women and girls worldwide! IWC offers numerous opportunities for all members to engage with its mission and work.

My wish for all of you is a healthy, happy summer filled with sunshine, fresh air, and quality time with the ones you love.

Karen Kortsch, IWC President
