The Annual Meeting for the International Women’s Convocation was held this June during the UUA General Assembly in Columbus, Ohio.
GA as a whole allowed IWC members and friends to gather and talk around our booth in the Exhibit Hall. We gave out information about the Third Convocation and our other programs, and we displayed and sold beautiful hand-crafted items from Uganda. IWC participated in an Inter-UU workshop on how our international U*U work also offers important interfaith leadership.
Our Annual Breakfast at the Columbus Downtown Hotel began at 7 am on Saturday, June 25, 2016, with conversation, networking, and a good sit-down breakfast. Rev. Sara Ascher, Executive Director of ICUU, offered the invocation. Keynoters the Rev. Dr. Renee Waun and Karen LaFrance informed us about the exciting work of the African Rural Schools Foundation and the IWC Mutundwe Village Microfinance Program, both operating near Kampala, Uganda.
President Arlene Johnson called the official Annual Meeting to order at 8:15 am, with approximately 45 IWC members present. Arlene and Nominating Committee Chair, the Rev. Carol Huston, offered the following slate for election: Tina Huesing, Kathleen Burek, Sharon Van Duizend, nominated for 3-year terms, and Gizella Nagy nominated for a one-year term on the Board of Directors; Phyllis Marsh was for a 2-year term as Treasurer and Carol Huston for a 2-year term as Vice President. All were elected by acclamation. Phyllis then introduced the current budget, which had been approved by the Board earlier in the year and was available for review in the newsletter and on the breakfast tables.
Laura Nagel offered an invitation for all to attend the Third Convocation, and also invited everyone present to make a donation to the Margot Adler Scholarship Fund, which will help young adults and international U*U women to attend.
The organization then honored and thanked Cathy Cordes for her service to the UU Partner Church Council and also for her important work as a founding board member of the International Convocation of U*U Women, dba IWC.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 AM, and a benediction from Barishisha “Barri” Mukhim, Meghalaya, North East India, ended our time together.
